Musculoskeletal assessments in Cairns

Find out what's actually going on

A musculoskeletal assessment is a thorough clinical examination of your muscles, joints, tendons, and movement patterns.

It’s how we identify what’s driving your pain or injury, explain it clearly, and put a treatment plan in place.

Every patient at Far North Physiotherapy starts with one.

What a musculoskeletal assessment covers

At your first appointment, your physiotherapist will take a detailed history and then assess the relevant structures and movements. Depending on your presentation, this may include:

At the end of your assessment, you’ll have a clear diagnosis, an understanding of what’s driving your symptoms, and a plan for what comes next. No guesswork, no vague advice.

Who is a musculoskeletal assessment for?

No referral is needed. You can book directly.

Musculoskeletal assessment FAQs

How long does an assessment take?

A standard initial assessment takes 45 to 60 minutes. This gives us enough time to take a thorough history, assess the relevant structures, and discuss the findings and plan with you before you leave.

No. You can book directly without a GP referral. If you’re coming under a GP management plan, WorkCover, or NDIS, contact us and we’ll advise on the process.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being assessed. If you have any relevant imaging, previous reports, or GP referral letters, bring those along. If you don’t have anything, that’s fine — we work from your history and examination findings.
